Immolation- "Apostle" single (2022)

More of the same from the mighty Immolation. I don't mean that in no bad way! While I personally find this an odd choice for the album's single, if "Apostle" is an indicator of the albums direction however, I'm sure I'll be pleased as usual with their hard work.

Corpsegrinder- "Acid Vat" single (2022)

When I heard that Corpsegrinder was making an album on his own I definitely got excited. Hearing that there were to be elements of hardcore, Punk and death metal, I got a little more excited!

What wasn't exciting was the first track released from this project, "Acid Vat". It really is just Cannibal Corpse. I hold out hope for something more interesting when the full album comes out.

Dec. 17th, 2021: Vail's Birthday Bash @ Mission 210: Shirley Temple, X.I.L., Blood Skid

I had been super psyched for this show a few weeks out. Not only was it held at a new DIY venue (their first show), it was the quinceanara of a dear friend of mine! What punk rock 15 year old wouldn't want that?!

First up was Shirly Temple, a good mix of power violence and more straight up grind. Their set did not disappoint; songs clocking in under a minute, forced a pit and surprised me when they closed their set with a very unique and original Cock Sparrer cover. I hadn't had the privilege of seeing them yet (or even hearing of them), but noticed alum from local acts FULLBLOWNAIDS and Garden of the Worm in the lineup,  so I had a feeling it would be good. It was for sure.

Next to hit the stage was a quick addition after Whatever dropped out for...whatever reason, X.I.L. a legit, no poser, speedmetal feast!! I DID NOT SEE THIS ONE COMING! Needless to say, X.I.L. (exile) stole the show, the beer and the hearts of all the speed freaks in attendance. They brewed up a strong one that was equal parts Sodom/Venom/Hellhammer in what they have dubbed "Break Neck Rock & Roll".

Last to play were the always fun Blood Skid. I wouldn't begin to really know how to describe their brand of noise. But if you like punk rock, grind, emo, emoviolence, plain interesting shit, then ..yes. Sadly, not only had the crowd been thoroughly drained from the prior onslaught, Blood Skid themselves seemed to be less enthusiastic than usual. Who knows, maybe an off night, but I'd still recommend seeing them if you can.

As for venue itself, I can definitely see this continuing to be a great place for local bands to get their start, but have a hard time seeing how it would hold even a quarter of people coming to see a band like M.D.C. (who are slated to play there soon). Kudos to the Mission for a good time!
